Well, we were having a fine time until about Wednesday last week when the heavens opened up, and up and up!
4 full days of rain day and night. At least we were able to fill our water tanks! And as I’m writing this it’s pouring again!!!
So we are now stranded here at the campground with other campers till the rivers go down over the roads as all flooded. The camp hosts are organising a food drop this week as most everyone’s supplies are getting low.
The bridge at Ravensthorpe on the hwy (Phillips River) washed away as seen on the News making life difficult for Truckies and Travellers. My recommendation to anyone heading towards Ravensthorpe and Esperance….DON’T!!
All good things must come to an end and with our house sit complete we are now ‘on the road again’!!
We left Mt Barker and headed south east toward the coast. Stopped in a couple of Rest Areas for a few nights along the way (one was a gravel pit at Gairdner as the weather turned nasty, gravel is better than mud!). Bremer Bay was ok but not very dog friendly plus the weather wasn’t good so we didn’t see it at it’s best. At the Meridian RA outside of Ravensthorpe we chatted to a lovely lady Ranger who gave us lots of info about the area.
We visited a few small towns – Jerramungup (they have a great Kokoda Op Shop (open Wed & Sat) next to Lions Park, Fitzgerald – an old school site and tennis courts now overnight stop, Ravensthorpe – neat town with painted silos, easy to locate dump point & water. They are doing up the footpaths with pavers which makes the long haul up the hill easier.
We turned south to Hopetoun and then along the Southern Ocean Road to our fist campsite, Mason’s Bay. Reasonably new bays, dump point, shire owned, camp hosts and drop loo all for $10 pn. Good price for a change. We have had a bit of a fish but nothing to brag about…yet!
Till we move on (or one of us catches the BIGGEST FISH EVER!!!) ……
